At the Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center, our immediate goal is to provide humane, professional care for pet surrenders and orphaned native wildlife that cannot be safely returned to the wild. Our sanctuary is home to over 170 animals, including lizards, small mammals, lemurs, amphibians, turtles and tortoises, crocodiles, and of course, alligators. Our animal family arrives from various sources such as the FWC, SPCA, wildlife rescues, and individual owners who can no longer care for their pets.
Although currently in our temporary location due to a fire, our mission remains the same, and we are still taking in animals.
Equally important, we strive to educate the public about the natural history, significance, and coexistence with the diverse wildlife of our planet. Each year, thousands of students, scouts, teachers, homeowners, seniors, and others participate in our educational programs. As our region continues to welcome new residents from urban areas, the demand for advice, assistance, information, education, and referrals will increase.
